I'm a journalist, essayist, screenwriter, editor, poet, and teacher.

My journalism and essays have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, The New Yorker, Esquire, Wired, Slate, The Daily Beast, The Economist, and other publications. My poetry has appeared in many journals, including The Paris Review, Denver Quarterly, and Boston Review.

I studied the history and philosophy of science at Harvard College and poetry at Warren Wilson College. I live with my family in Oregon.
